Electric Aircraft Takes Off

The Washington state electric aircraft industry took a big step forward on May 28 with the flight of the all-electric Cessna Grand Caravan. Both the Redmond-based magniX and AeroTEC contributed to the design and success of the world's largest electric aircraft. MagniX's goal is for electric aircraft to connect people and products via smaller regional airports. The test flight was unable to carry passengers due to the quantity of lithium-ion batteries required for power. However, battery technology is rapidly advancing and is strategiclly important to Washington state as the avaition industry works to decrease their carbon emissions
