  • Dr. Bin Yang, WSU Associate Professor in the Department of Biological Systems Engineering, was highlighted in the December issue of Biofuels Digest. Dr. Yang, a 2015-16 JCATI awardee, and his team are working on recovering lignin from biomass and converting it to jet fuel. 

  • Claire Watts presented "2D and 3D millimeter-wave synthetic aperture radar imaging on a PR2 platform" at the 2016 IEEE/RSJ International Conference on Intelligent Robots & Systems. Her work is part of Matt Reynolds current JCATI funded project "Reconfigurable airborne radar imaging with dynamic metamaterial antennas."

  • Dr. JK Yang and his group recently published "Visualization of stress wave propogation via air-coupled acoustic emission sensors" in the Journal of Smart Materials & Structures. This work has also been presented at both the SEM and ASME-IMECE conferences. Dr. Yang is from the UW Department of Aeronautics & Astronautics and is a JCATI awardee for 2015-16 and 2016-17. 

  • Dr. Christopher Lum and his group recently published two papers based on JCATI funded projects: "UAS Postion Estimation in GPS-Degraded Environments via ADS-B and Multilateral Fusion" and "A Database System Architecture for Air-to-Ground UAS Link Characterization". Dr. Lum is an Assistant Research Professor in the UW William E. Boeing Department of Aeronautics and Astronautics and was awarded JCATI funding for UAV projects in 2013-14 and 2015-16.

  • Five Western Washington University students presented results from JCATI funded projects at the May SAMPE 2017 conference in Seattle. Gabriel Hill, Gunnar Linsdkog, Chris Carpenter and Mark Seely gave general technical session talks while Robert Kearneyparticipated in the student poster competition. Since 2012, Westen has had multiple successful JCATI collaborations with Zodiac Aerospace focusing on development and manufacture of composite materials. 

  • Dr. Bin Yang is an author on a recently published paper in Biofuels, Bioprouducts & Biorefining: "Techno-economic analysis of jet-fuel pruduction from biorefinery waste lignin." Dr. Yang is an Associate Professor of Biological Systems Engeering at Washington State University, Tri-Cities and has spent most of his career working on renewable energy technologies. He was awarded JCATI funding for biofuels projects in 2015-16 and 2018-19.
