2017 JCATI Request for Proposals

The Joint Center for Aerospace Technology Innovation (JCATI) is a WA legislature funded economic development program for the state's aerospace industry. JCATI provides short term funding via academic collaboration to boost projects close to industry integration. The academic partner receives JCATI funding while the industry partner provides in-kind support to ensure a technology need. The legislature's goal is the rapid transfer of innovative technologies into industry to keep WA aerospace competitive, provide students with industry exposure and stimulate job creation.

JCATI funds are not long term funding or R&D support. The legislature expects JCATI funding to be used for short term collaboration addressing a specific technology roadblock. The objective is to completely transition the technology to the industry partner for validation or integration (TRL 5 and above). Partners must outline a clear transition plan for imminent incorporation.  Interested industry partners of all sizes should contact faculty directly or JCATI to find potential research partners.

  • JCATI award amounts are $50,000-$100,000
  • The project period is one year: July 1, 2017-June 30, 2018.
  • Proposals are due Friday, March 3, 2017 by 5 PM PST.

Note: Continuation of JCATI for 2017-19 is contingent on appropriation from the Washington legislature so our funding status might not be known until late June. If JCATI is continued, funds dispersement will be delayed due to the fiscal biennium close. Awardees should consult their college and departmental administrators with regard to the advance budget process.

Changes to the 2017 Application Process

  • Technology Readiness Level (TRL) of the project and justification of the chosen level is required.
  • Applications will undergo an initial triage based on the transition plan, industry need for technology and number of years applicant has received JCATI funding.
  • Applications not chosen to move forward will not be reviewed.
