JCATI FY28 Narrative Pre-review

The optional narrative pre-review gives you early feedback on whether your draft narrative is clear and follows the structure of the 2027–28 JCATI Request for Proposals. It is open to any eligible PI planning to apply.

Deadline

Thursday, January 7, 2027, 5:00 PM PST. The form closes automatically at that time.

How to submit

1. Download the JCATI Proposal Drafting Template (Word).
2. Draft your narrative in the Section III pages of the template, keeping each section within its character limit (spaces included).
3. Save only the Section III pages as a Word document or PDF.
4. Complete this form and upload that file. Submit one draft per proposal.

What to include

• A.1 Technical Background and Approach (up to 4,500 characters)
• A.2 Objectives, Outcomes, Deliverables (up to 2,500 characters)
• B.1 Partners, Roles and Support (up to 2,500 characters)
• B.2 Technology Transition Plan (up to 2,500 characters)
• C.1 Business Opportunities and Job Benefits (up to 1,500 characters)
• C.2 Educational, Internship and Job Opportunities (up to 1,500 characters)
• D Undergraduate Scholars Program (up to 2,000 characters), only if you plan to request USP funds

Leave out the cover sheet, budget, biosketches, references, and letters of support. They are not reviewed at this stage.

What the reviewer checks

• The industry pain point and proposed solution are clearly stated.
• The section structure and character limits are followed.
• The TRL and industry partnership sections are addressed.

What the pre-review does not do

It does not evaluate technical merit, scope, budget, or fundability. It is not scored and has no effect on the review of your final proposal, and skipping it carries no penalty.

What happens next

A JCATI reviewer will email brief written feedback to the PI email you enter below, typically within one to two weeks. Please do not email drafts to the Program Manager; use this form.
